The Latest, Greatest Low Tech Devices
I am device rich. My calendar is
always with me to schedule the next dentist appointment or to remind me to pick
up a kiddo. My map tells me where to go
when I'm lost (which happens a fair amount.) To see if a store is open, I only
need to dial a number. Hmm, that cloud looks menacing...an app lets me know to
grab an umbrella.
But being device rich can mean
being quality time poor.
No worries though, because I have
the latest in low tech technology!

Once you have arms, you really need to get
another device...
Mouth! This ultimate multi-functional tool can be
used for singing about twinkling little stars, kissing booboos, and saying I
love you. You really can't make a high
quality funny face without a mouth- you gotta get one of these!
I've had another device for a long time, but the
instructional manual is so confusing.
Ears. I
recently learned you have to clean all the potatoes out of them to improve
sound quality. Then, you need to stop cooking, take a break from laundry, and
put down all your other devices. Finally, lower the ears to the right level of
the person using their mouth device which may require kneeling down to interact with a 3-year-old. Don't
forget to turn off your own mouth device!
Now you
can use your ears to really listen to all the very important things happening
in the lives of your little people. Ears may be the most important device I
have.
What is your favorite low tech device?
I find ears and eyes work well when in sync. When I really REALLY want to make sure that my kids and I are hearing/listening to one another, eye contact is required! I guess that is eyes, ears and mouth as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! "Mommy?" "Yes, dear" I say while continuing to cut strawberries. "Mommy?" "Um-hmm?" "MOMMY! I'm trying to talk to you!!!"
DeleteOh...you want me to look at you, so you know for sure I'm listening. That's pretty smart, kiddo.
Sometimes I wish my ears didn't work! My low tech device that I can't live without is my pencil. I can write whenever, wherever I am without needing electrical power. The best part? I can write upside down without worrying about my pen not working.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that they have pens that can write upside down now? They are called"0-Gravity Pens" I think. :)
DeleteErik you know everything! That is good to know, in case I decide to start writing upside down (which is totally possible, because I'm pretty weird!)
DeletePencils are the best. Especially when it's so quiet, you can actually hear the words being composed. And sniffing pencil shavings has always been a favorite smell from way back when we got to use the huge swingline sharpener in grade school. Yumm.
DeleteI like that low-tech device that're called, I think, ropes. They come in handy - they keep your pants up, they make perfect toys, and they keep things together (combine toys and together to have a family bonding experience, and combine those pants with ropes to make sure no undies are seen. ;) Best if all steps used together. :) )
ReplyDeleteAwesome answer! They are good to have in case you ever need to save someone, too. Wouldn't you love to be the guy who says "Oh I have a rope in my backpack!" and save the day?
DeleteHeeheehee. This reminds me of the old Ren and Stimpy commercial for "log."
ReplyDeleteGotta love something a simple as arms. And mouth. That's a good one too. *winks*
"It's Log! It's Log!" I love me some Ren and Stimpy.
